Dyson now covers the whole cleaning chain in the home: cordless vacuums, models that both vacuum and wash floors, a dedicated floor cleaner and air purifiers that keep the indoor air clean. This guide goes through the entire range, explains what separates the models, and helps you choose based on the type of home you have and what you need.

Cordless vacuums: V8, V12 and V15

The handheld, cordless vacuums are the core of Dyson’s range. The differences come down to weight, battery life, suction and sensor technology.

  • Dyson V8 Absolute (from about 4 950 kr), the entry model. Light, simple and more than good enough for a flat or a smaller home. It lacks laser detection and a display, but it picks up well and is the cheapest.
  • Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute (from about 5 835 kr), weighs only 2.2 kg and has laser detection that lights up invisible dust on hard floors. The best choice for most people: light enough for daily use, smart enough to show what you are actually picking up.
  • Dyson V15 Detect Absolute (from about 7 668 kr), the top model, with a more powerful motor, longer battery life and a particle counter on the LCD screen that shows the amount and size of the dust. Worth it for large homes, pet owners and allergy sufferers.

2-in-1: the Submarine models that wash floors as well

The Submarine series adds a wet cleaning head to the ordinary vacuum, so you can dry vacuum and wet clean hard floors in the same session. The head pumps clean water onto a roller and sucks the dirty water up into a separate tank.

  • Dyson V15s Detect Submarine (from about 8 352 kr), combines the V15 power with wet cleaning. The most versatile machine Dyson makes. As much as 60 minutes of battery life and HEPA filtration.
  • Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine (from about 7 999 kr), the same 2-in-1 function in a lighter, slimmer package at 2.2 kg.

The Submarine suits families with children and pet owners who often have to deal with spills quickly, and anyone who would rather not own both a vacuum and a floor mop. Note that the wet head is for hard floors only; switch to the vacuum brush for carpets.

Dyson WashG1: the dedicated floor cleaner

The WashG1 (from about 5 499 kr) does not vacuum, it washes. Two counter-rotating microfibre rollers scrub the floor with clean water, while the dirty water collects in a separate tank so you never drag the dirt around the way an ordinary mop does. It handles parquet, laminate, tiles, vinyl and linoleum, and the rollers are machine washable and reusable.

WashG1 or Submarine? Choose the WashG1 if you have a lot of hard flooring and want the best possible washing result with separate clean and dirty water. Choose a Submarine vacuum if you want vacuuming and light wet cleaning in one machine and have a mix of carpets and hard floors.

Air purifiers: clean indoor air all year

Dyson’s air purifiers combine HEPA filtration with a fan, and some of them with heating as well. They remove pollen, airborne dust, animal hair and certain gases down to 0.1 microns.

  • Dyson Purifier Cool (from about 5 999 kr), air purification and cooling, without heating. A good choice for a bedroom or a home office.
  • Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool (from about 7 499 kr), air purifier, fan and heater in one. It suits Norwegian conditions, with cooling in summer and heat in winter.
  • Dyson Purifier Big Quiet Formaldehyde (from about 10 999 kr), covers rooms as large as 100 m² and breaks down formaldehyde. The top model for large rooms and for anyone with high demands on air quality.

An air purifier is particularly worth it for allergy sufferers, asthmatics, families with children and people living in a city with a lot of airborne dust. The filter should be changed roughly once a year (about 500 to 900 kr).

Which should you choose?

  • Small flat, tight budget: the Dyson V8 Absolute.
  • The best buy for most people: the Dyson V12 Detect Slim, light, smart and powerful enough.
  • Large house, pets or allergies: the Dyson V15 Detect, ideally the Submarine version.
  • A lot of hard flooring: the WashG1 alongside a vacuum.
  • Indoor air and allergies: a Purifier, the Cool for the bedroom, the Hot+Cool for the living room.

Frequently asked questions

Do I get cashback on a Dyson vacuum?
Yes, when you click through to the shop via Sparebørsen. The rate is shown on the partner page and is stamped on the purchase the moment you click through.
Which Dyson vacuums are covered?
Normally the whole range at the retailer in question, both the handheld V models and the robot vacuums. Some shops exclude campaign bundles from commission, and then the cashback falls away on precisely those items.
Is it worth waiting for a sale?
Often yes, and cashback is no argument against it. Cashback is calculated on the amount you actually pay, so a lower price gives a lower sum back, but the total price is still lower. Buy when the price is right, and treat the cashback as an addition.
