Invite a friend: you and your friend get 50 kr each, with Vipps verification

Updated June 2026: we now require the friend you refer to sign up with Vipps for the referral bonus to apply. That way we reward real people, and the programme is protected against abuse. The details below have been updated.

We have listened to feedback from our users, and from 29 April 2026 we changed how the “invite a friend” programme works. The model is simpler and fairer than before: you no longer have to wait for your friend to shop before your bonus arrives.

What is new?

Previously, both you and your friend received 100 kr after your friend had earned 100 kr in cashback. That worked in theory, but in practice it meant many people waited for weeks, or never saw the bonus at all, because the friend was not about to shop straight away.

Now it is much simpler:

• 50 kr to you, credited to your Sparebørsen account once your friend has signed up through your link and confirmed their identity with Vipps.
• 50 kr to your friend, credited to their account once the Vipps verification is complete.
• No first purchase required. The bonus is there as soon as your friend is Vipps verified.

Our total cost per invitation is the same as before (100 kr), but you both get the money as soon as the referral is confirmed, rather than perhaps. If you invite a lot of people, that makes the whole thing far more motivating.

Why do we require Vipps verification?

To protect the programme against abuse, we now require that the friend you refer confirms their identity with Vipps. Vipps, the Norwegian mobile payment app, gives us a reliable confirmation that there is a real person behind the new account. That means the referral bonus only applies to real users, not to fake accounts created to harvest bonuses.

In practice it is straightforward: if your friend signs up directly with Vipps, 50 kr is credited to each of you immediately. If your friend chooses to sign up with an email address first, the bonus waits until they have confirmed with Vipps, and then the money is released on both accounts automatically.

Why 50 kr and not 100 kr as before?

Previously 100 kr was paid to each party, but only if a particular target was reached. In practice the odds of the bonus actually being paid out were well below 50%. The new model is guaranteed: you always get 50 kr per friend who signs up and verifies with Vipps. Taken together you therefore get more out of your invitations than under the old model, unless every single one of your friends went on to shop.

Minimum payout: 100 kr to your bank

So that we can run this without administrative chaos, we have introduced a rule that applies to all payouts: you need at least 100 kr in available balance to transfer to a bank account. In practice that means you have to shop a little before you can withdraw your first referral bonus, but it happens quickly. After your first invitation you are only 50 kr short, and one cashback purchase with one of our 300+ partners will usually take you past the line.

A worked example: how much can you earn?

Say you invite five friends over the course of a month. That gives you 5 × 50 kr = 250 kr straight away, simply for sending the link. On top of that your friends got 50 kr each, money they take with them into their own cashback adventure.

Invite 20 friends over six months? That is 1 000 kr in pure bonus, quite apart from what you earn on your own purchases. Many of our most active users are at 30 to 50 invitations a year, which comes to an extra 1 500 to 2 500 kr.

How to use the programme

1. Log in to Sparebørsen and go to “Invite friends” in your menu.
2. Copy your unique link, which looks like spareborsen.no/ref/YOURCODE.
3. Share the link by text message, Messenger, email or social media. We also have a built-in email tool where you enter your friend's address and we take care of the invitation itself.
4. Your friend signs up and confirms with Vipps through your link. As soon as your friend is Vipps verified, 50 kr is credited to both accounts.

Tips for successful invitations

Personal beats mass mailing

People say yes to a personal recommendation. Send a text or a Messenger message to specific friends you think will get something out of the service: someone who shops a lot online, for instance, or who cares about saving a little on everyday spending.

Explain what they get

“You get 50 kr free just for creating an account, and then cashback on everything you buy” is easier to say yes to than “it is a cashback service”.

Pick the right moment

Black Friday, Christmas shopping, the spring travel season, the July sales: these are moments when cashback has real value for the person receiving it. When you send the invitation affects how many people actually sign up.

Share on Facebook and Instagram stories

Stories are fleeting and feel less intrusive than a status update. “Used Sparebørsen today and got 230 kr back on the Christmas shopping. Here is my link if anyone wants to try it” works well.

Common questions

What happens to the invitations I sent before the change?

Friends who signed up through your link before 29 April 2026 are still on the old model. When your friend earns 100 kr in cashback, you both get 100 kr, exactly as promised. We do not go back on our word.

Can I invite myself with another email address?

No. The referral bonus requires the referred friend to sign up with Vipps, and Vipps is tied to one national identity number per person, so you cannot create several “real” accounts on yourself. We also check against device ID, IP address and payment method. Attempts at abuse lead to immediate suspension of the account and forfeiture of the whole earned balance. Do not try it. It is not worth it.

Is there an upper limit on the number of invitations?

No, there is no cap. We do reserve the right to stop obvious abuse (for example the same person creating 50 accounts from the same IP address).

How do I see how much I have earned?

Go to “Invite friends” in your dashboard. There you can see all your friends, the date they signed up, and how much you have earned in total.

What if my friend deletes their account?

Your bonus has already been paid and is not affected. Your friend of course loses their own bonus if the account is deleted.

Why do we do this?

Sparebørsen grows because our users talk about us. The best marketing is one friend recommending the service to another. We want to reward that. The old model was good in theory, but in practice the bonus often never triggered, and that is a poor experience for the person inviting and the person invited alike.
