Families with children save with cashback: clothes, equipment and toys
Children grow fast and constantly need something new. Here is how the family saves with cashback at children's shops.
Few things drain a wallet as steadily and as predictably as children. They outgrow their shoes every four months, need a new snowsuit each season, and nappies, wet wipes and baby food disappear at a rate nobody is prepared for until they are in the middle of it. Precisely because these purchases are unavoidable and repeat themselves, families with children are perhaps the group that gains most from cashback over time: you save money on costs you cannot avoid.
Nappies and consumables: the quiet big expense
A child gets through around 5 000 nappies in the first two years. Many families subscribe to nappies, wet wipes and baby food from online shops so they do not have to carry it home, and if you order this via grocery partners or family partners, you get cashback on a purchase you make month after month. Here it is the many small amounts, rather than the one big one, that really add up.
Clothes that get outgrown: buy in season, before the next size is needed
Children's clothes have a short life on each body, so the trick is to shop cleverly rather than expensively. The family and fashion partners run seasonal sales where you can buy the next size up at a reduced price, with cashback on top. A tip many parents swear by: buy the snowsuit and the rainwear a size up in the spring sale, and it is ready for the autumn at half price plus cashback.
Equipment, sport and electronics
Football boots that get too small mid-season, skis for the winter holiday, a bicycle for a birthday: check the sports partners before every purchase. And when the family holiday is booked, there is cashback on hotels and accommodation at the travel partners, often on family rooms too.
A worked example: a family with two children
- Nappies and consumables: 12 000 kr/year × 2.5% = 300 kr
- Clothes and shoes (both children): 16 000 kr × 3% = 480 kr
- Sport and equipment: 5 000 kr × 3% = 150 kr
- Family holiday: 20 000 kr × 3% = 600 kr
- Electronics and other: 8 000 kr × 2% = 160 kr
That comes to close to 1 700 kr a year, and if you catch Black Week or the January sales on the bigger purchases, the discount and the cashback combine into 30 to 40% off that particular shop.
Find the children's shops you already use in the cashback overview, and let the family budget do a little of the work itself.
