Online prices fell 2.4 times more often than they rose this summer
Sparebørsen tracks the price of more than 1.2 million products at more than 350 Norwegian online stores. From 15 June to 2 August 2026 we took 7.8 million price readings. Here is what they show, and why timing matters more than most people think.

Prices fall more often than they rise
Among the roughly 47,000 products we measured at least five times in the period, 36% fell in price, while only 15% rose. Almost half stood still. In other words: once an online price moves, it goes down more than twice as often as it goes up.
1 in 7
products fell by 10% or more over the seven weeks, and almost 1 in 13 fell by 25% or more. The price drops are always there. Most people simply miss them because they buy on the wrong day. When prices do fall, the typical drop is around 6%.
Some categories swing far more than others
The share of products that fell in price during the period, per category. Home & garden and sports equipment moved the most; health and beauty was the most stable.
What does this mean for you?
Online prices move far more than a fixed price tag in a shop. The same product can cost several hundred kroner less in a few weeks, or right now, at another store. Keeping an eye on the price, and getting cashback on top of the purchase, are two simple ways to avoid paying more than you need to. Sparebørsen does both automatically.
About the figures
The basis is Sparebørsen's own price tracking: 7,833,099 price readings (ProductPriceSnapshot) on products from the feeds of more than 350 Norwegian and Nordic online stores we work with, in the period 15 June to 2 August 2026. A price change is the first reading against the last for the roughly 47,000 products measured at least five times in the period. To stop feed errors from inflating the averages, changes outside the range of minus 90% to plus 300% are excluded, and we report the median rather than the mean. The category figures only cover categories with at least a few thousand measured products. The figures describe Sparebørsen's tracked catalogue, not the Norwegian online retail market as a whole.
